“The Spectacular Now” producer Andrew Lauren is expanding his company and has hired veteran executive D.J. Gugenheim as president of production at Andrew Lauren Prods.
Lauren and Gugenheim will develop a film slate focusing on director-driven and commercial films. They also plan to invest in up to three films a year with a seven-figure fund for production and early stage pre-production, as well as equity to back films in the $5 million to $15 million range. The duo are working with David Boyle to fuel the company’s growth.
Variety named Gugenheim one of its Up-and-Coming Dealmakers last year.
Gugenheim was most recently exec VP of production and operations at Lotus Entertainment, where he oversaw production on “Kidnap,” starring Halle Berry, and brought in “Replicas,” starring Keanu Reeves, and “Tiger’s Curse,” with Shekhar Kapur directing. He’s also worked for Joel Zwick, CAA, Paramount Vantage and Universal-based Captivate Entertainment.
Lauren’s credits include “The Squid and the Whale” and the documentaries “Mateo,” “Life 2.0” and “This Is Not a Robbery.”
