Here are seven things you need to know about the Foursquare ministry.
1. It is not an African initiated church: These are churches that were started in Africa by Africans and are independent of foreign missionaries. The foursquare does not fall under this category because it was brought to Nigeria by white missionaries named Rev. & Mrs Harold Curtis.

2. It was established in Nigeria in the 1950s: The church was brought to the country through Rev. & Mrs Curtis. In 1955, the pair founded the LIFE Theological Seminary at Herbert Macurley Road, Yaba, Lagos and so the church was born. The ministry was further established after the missionary couple trained some young boys.
Odunaike, Samuel Olusegun (1934–1991)was one of those young boys. The others were Boyejo, James Abayomi (1928–2011)and Rev. Friday Chinyere Osuwa. They are regarded as the founding fathers of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria.
3. The name can be traced to the Bible: The term, “Foursquare” is based on the one in the book of Exodus and Ezekiel 40:47. It can also be found in the book of the Revelation.
However, “Foursquare Gospel” came to the church’s founder, Aimee Semple McPherson. It was revealed during an evangelistic campaign in Oakland, California, in 1922. She opened the first church, Angelus Temple on January 1, 1923.
4. The church has 22 tenets of faith: According to the church’s website, their belief is based upon these 22 things. They include the Bible, salvation, the Trinity, water baptism, heaven, hell and tithes.

5. The church is headed by Nigerians: The church is currently being led by Rev. Felix Meduoye, who is the fourth indigenous General Overseer of the church in Nigeria.
6. Lagos is vital to the church: Foursquare is all over the church but its headquarters can be found in Lagos, 62/66 Akinwunmi Street, Yaba. The church’s international conference centre is also in Lagos, Orinsunmibare Idimu.
7. The church is reportedly the second largest in the country.
